Abstract:

This paper considers security mechanisms for authorizing and
monitoring IP connections over wireline as well as wireless
networks. The objective is to minimize the risk of an unauthorized
user gaining access to a network and to prevent an intruder from
stealing a connection from an authorized user.
A system, which we call Network Access Login/Authentication Polling
(NAL/AP),
has been developed for wireline networks. It
is based on polling of the authorized connections.
Wireless mobile IP demands a somewhat different approach and a
method, given the name Network Access Login/Authentication Polling
by Challenge-Response (NAL/APCR), based on periodic
challenge-response
requests,
is presented.
